Outside of Time

We sat and put the world to rights
That rainy afternoon of ours,
And watched the bruised clouds overhead
Move darkly through our private hours.
We talked of love and politics,
Explored religion and romance,
As passers by, hunched in the rain,
Unheeding of our verbal dance,
Ran on. I felt your warming breath
As worlds reflected in your eyes.
You changed the subject – people watching,
Youth and whether all love dies.
And some-when, out of season now,
As darker hours threatening crawl,
We’re locked in conversation still,
Outside of time, where soft rain falls.
