A Night amongst the Stars

We used the stars as coat hooks, and we lassoed them with rope.
Then we climbed the heavens, star by star, until we reached the boat
We’d made from newspaper, now set adrift across the Milky Way,
With its patchwork sails of handkerchiefs and spiders’ webs for stays.
So we caught the solar trade winds, and we rode celestial bores,
And whenever we were in a lull used moonbeams for our oars.
And we wound the gramophone up tight, and played the bossanova
As the universe around us burned in golden supernovas.
