Sacred Gloom

One hundred thousand fathoms down where light could never penetrate
I sit, unravelling my soul. This is my hour to contemplate
The things I’ve known. I’ve stacked and filed them all up alphabetically,
And labelled them as ‘Fools’ and ‘Freaks’ and ‘Problems caused Genetically’.
Pulling at the knotted strands to see how they all knit together,
Trying to understand the cause, the company, the hour, the weather.
Here was the dawn, this was the place I fell out with the human race,
The friendships lost, the lessons learned, the ‘whys’ and ‘wherefores I got burned’
Such good that all this work achieves. Come morning I’ll have closed the tomb
And barred the door until next time I wallow in this sacred gloom
