I am Edwardian

I am Edwardian – or should have been;
An age of clockwork, coal and steam,
Of waistcoats, fobs and granddad shirts
And girls in bonnets and long skirts.
I don’t do tee shirts; don’t wear Gap;
I hate those stupid baseball caps.
Now, me, I’d rather be the bloke
That wears his out-of-sync trench coat
And doesn’t give a damn.
That’s just the sort of bloke I am –
My head’s stuck in a distant age
Where Art Deco was more the rage
Than Damian Hurst or Tracy Emin.
I’m like the gardener down at Blenheim
Palace, togged up in his best,
With braces, flat cap, woollen vest,
To turn the vegetable patch.
I’m out of time. I just don’t match
The current style, if style it is;
The great steam-punk anachronist.
